Less Dangerous Than You Think
Not Australia. No deadly spiders, no aggressive snakes, no shark attacks. No human has died from an animal on Cyprus in recent decades. But bites and stings happen – knowing what to do keeps you calm.
Snakes
Levante viper: only seriously venomous species. Painful but NOT fatal for healthy adults. Shy, bites only when cornered. Precaution: sturdy shoes on hikes. If bitten: hospital (antivenom available). Other 7 species: harmless.
The section on "Less Dangerous Than You Think" was the most valuable for us. We couldn't find this information anywhere else before our move. It saved us a lot of time and hassle.

Spiders and Scorpions
No dangerous spiders. Scorpions: present in rural areas. Sting: painful like wasp sting, not life-threatening. Shake out shoes left outside. Black widow: theoretically present, extremely rare.
In the Sea
Jellyfish: occasional late summer (moon jellyfish, fire jellyfish). Treat: seawater + vinegar. Sea urchins: rocky coasts, water shoes prevent. Weever fish: extremely painful sting, treat with hot water (40-45°C).
